"I was so used to Goddard being wrong, I expected it again, but this time Steven Goddard was right and my confirmation bias prevented me from seeing that there was in fact a real issue in the data and that NCDC has dead stations that are reporting data that isn't real: mea culpa"(emphasis mine)

Goddard, aka Tony Heller's, reply.

Anthony - like any human does occasionally - fell into the subtle trap of Confirmation Bias.
I would argue "with good reason" in Goddard's (historical) case, but that's irrelevant.
It is noteworthy that he man'ed-up IMMEDIATELY (NO reference to Mike Mann, fer chrissake!) and publicly, confessed his error, and (wise, as he truly is) learned a valuable lesson we should all take to heart.
Now if only the Warmists would...
I think Anthony initially thought he was dogging his outstanding site station project from a few years back--missing the fact that Heller was taking about "zombie stations"--and so dimissed it without a proper look.
But he looked again.
Still the public damage was done. The genie cannot be put back in the bottle.
So, the same thing Muller did to him, he did it to Goddard.
Sigh.... I wish kids would play nicer.
