Well, BC, the good news is this clown may yet be indicted by the feds. The bad news is the guy who will follow is a REAL Ecotard. He can't wait to enforce every Green wet dream that comes down the pike. Good thing I live in the burbs.
I hadn't thought about green roofs, although I know this was done by several pre-Columbian cultures in the southwest USA. If you build the structure to carry the weight, a foot and a half of topsoil can grow almost anything. It also keeps animals and grabby neighbors from snagging your crops. But you have to put in the work, just like any other vegetable garden. Simpler approaches looking more for thermal effect than food supply would use much less soil for less weight, and put in a low care perennial crop like grass or vinca. I can see there being an issue with the insulative effectiveness of thin soils; like a potted plant in the sun, the dirt is going to heat right up and die unless it's deep enough.
All that said, 9/11 is NOT about community service. It's about remembering that our way of life was attacked for no reason at all, and that thousands died. And that pisslam is our enemy, now and forever, in every way shape and form. I SHALL NOT SUBMIT. NOT EVER.

On the bright side, cool roofs / green roofs actually work and can save you a fair amount of money in the summer.
