RIP Leonard Nimoy, 1931-2015

I grew up with Leonard, from The Untouchables, and the I Robot episode on Outer Limits, to Spock, of course, and Mission Impossible, replacing Martin Landau.
It was about that time I learned I'd seen him--looking amazingly Spockish--years before in the combined Commando Cody serial Zombies of the Stratosphere. He was on everything: Combat, Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, Sea Hunt, The Twilight Zone, even Get Smart. I even saw him play Malvolio in Twelfth Night at the old Pittsburgh Public Theater back in the 1970s. He died this morning at 83. Yeah, He lived long and prospered.
*the above photo is from a party his record label threw--yeah he had a record deal--in 1969. Partying with Eric and Jimi. You don't get to do that every day. So long, Leonard.

Trailer Trash Friday Link: 'The Scribbler'

Okay, I tried to embed this Red Band trailer because it's better than the one on YouLube, but the code jut sits there in html. Anyway, it looks pretty cool. Not only that, the hottie factor in nigh off the charts:Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Eliza Dushku, Gina Gershon and pr@n star Sasha Grey.
It also features Billy Campbell in his now perpetually recurring role as "that creepy motherfucker"and Michael Imperioli as the cop who hasn't had enough tequila to believe this bullshit.
So, below should be the link to the Red Band trailer. I say 'should' because this is fucking Google and I haven't had enough tequila either. Good luck.

I Told You It Would Be Someone New...

With only 5 fast and furiouser film credits, Gal Gadot is the new Wonder Woman:
Not as bad a choice as Ben Afflicted, but color me underimpressed.

Can't Wait: "Cabin In The Woods" Theme Park Maze

Well, I know which ride I'm going on first...

Yep, according to WorstPreviews, Universal Orlando is going for it.

"We are building the cabin completely," said the company. "You're going to walk through a forest to get there. You're going into the cabin. You're going into the cube cells."

Trailer Trash: Open Windows--Plus Comment Awesome

WorstPreviews has a leaked Russian trailer for Elijah Woods' upcoming thriller Open Windows, in which he plays a stalker peeper obsessed fan of a, subsequently kidnapped, actress played by Sasha Grey, who he then tries to find rescue.
Of his role, Woods said, "So much of what my character is experiencing is happening on a computer screen."
Which elicited this:

Don't you love that Profanity option they have in the comments over there. ;-)

Sasha Grey...? This is Sasha Grey:

Trying to go the Traci Lords route, or just a one-night stand? And yes, it embiggenifies.

Trailer Trash: Thoughts On Iron Man 3

Okay, I've returned from seeing Iron Man 3, and I recommend it. All of the performances were top notch, as were, of course, the effects. The kid was very good, as was the entire section where Stark has to do without the suit. And while I found parts of the story line predictable, they were no less enjoyable, especially the climactic one featuring Pepper.
However, the major plot twist involving one of the characters-- though carried off well--I did not like at all.
It was one of several elements that seemed to have been placed in the story to "wrap up" the trilogy. All of these pissed me off.
While I have had no problem with previous revisions to Marvel characters in the translation to film, in this case, fealty to the strictures of the "three picture deal" over cannon seemed to dictate plot elements specifically written to end the series. The final credits ran over stills and clips from all three movies and even the "Tony Stark will return" message at the end said only that.
Downey, of course, hinted that he wouldn't be back--and since he made more money than God with his back-end Avengers percentage deal--that may be true, though he is expected to be in Avengers 2. Even so, the script shouldn't have queered things in terms of character elements and villains for someone else going forward. So while I recommend the film, I didn't like it. But then I could just be jaded after The Avengers.

Just Who Do They Fear To Offend?

Marvel (really Disney) Studios put out different US  and International promo posters for Ben Kingsley's Mandarin character in Iron Man 3. Take a look. For the US:

 And...

Just who doesn't want to see a villain with a bunch of weapons? Not the audience. The only people who might be offended are the Pols in the midst of their 2nd Amendment violations. If evil masterminds don't have full-auto rifles and semiautomatic pistols, you certainly don't need any, do you? And those ammo belts, just hand those over to DHS like a good slave, okay?

Maybe that's why Stan Lee's old company is suing Disney. Pussies.
