That's what the technicians call the various fauna immolated by the Ivanpah solar furnace. It kind of looks like this...
Okay, smaller and much faster. Maybe more like this...
Okay, no one from the Audubon Society has yet bothered to sit out in the Mojave Desert heat with a camera to document the carnage because #caring. But observers at the site counted an average of one streamer every two minutes, or 720 a day, or 262,800 creatures per year reaching 1,000 degrees in just seconds.
Now the streamers could be wind-blown debris, or they could be Golden Eagles, Red-tailed Hawks, owls, finches, warblers, doves, bats or the insects all of those feed on--including the Yucca Moth.
Yucca moths pollinate Joshua Tree yuccas, they are the only insects that do. It is a symbiotic relationship where neither can survive without the other. Joshua tree?!?!? What Would Bono Do?
Now, when I first heard of this project years ago, it made sense to me because a desert is the perfect place for a solar furnace, because #Sam Kinison:
But the Mojave is not the Sahara, and a surprising amount of shit actually "lives in the desert!" Of course, the owner, BrightSource Energy said it only collected 202 "bodies," So, nothing to see here. Move along.
Well, with most of the evidence being vaporized, they kinda have a point.

best Sam evar!!!! Poor guy ... we saw him live around 1989 when he was still drinking and doing drugs (and still doing Jessica Hahn). Funniest shit ever. Saw him again 2 years later when he was clean, dry, and religious. He sucked. A short while later he was killed by a drunk driver. Can't you just see him up in heaven going "And how fucking ironic is that?!? Oh oh oh oh ohh!!!!"
You probably know, he started out as a preacher--that's where he got his delivery. Then his wife went through all his money--and them some, he discovered the wonders of alcohol, cocaine and rampant sex, and the world was never the same.
I'm so sad that he never got around to building Sammyland. The big titty ride was going to be epic.
IIRC, they predicted this would happen before the furnace was built. Why are people surprised?
And I miss Kinison, too :)
